The first thing to do it to identify that life is made up of patterns and that life can sometimes be repetitive. An example, you get up, have breakfast, go to work, come home from work, have dinner and go to sleep. It's a pattern, therefore the easiest way to break that pattern is by doing something new. When we were kids we dealt with the repetitive nature of life by being spontaneous, jumping off of car garages, building bases and playing knock down ginger on our neighbour's houses. Perhaps it is time you did the same thing. No I am not proposing you climb up on roofs, play knock down ginger, and harass the neighbour's long suffering cat. Ever considered taking up kick boxing, or visiting the gym? Actually for me, I found volunteering to be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, I volunteered at a youth club four nights a week, and it changed my entire life trajectory, I am now working as a teaching assistant. Sometimes what we think we require is a change of job, but I elect that is an extreme tactic, life is a lot more about the people you fill it with than the job you do. Fact: the majority of people dislike there job, that is why they have to pay us to do it! No one at the end of their life wishes they had worked more, it just doesn't happen. However, even Billy Graham the great evangelist, after what many Christians would consider to be a life well lived, when asked the question what would you do differently? Responded, "I wish I had of spent more time with my family." The only truly precious thing in this world is time, you only get every day once, so spend it wisely. All of a sudden, those hours you spend vegging in front of the telly look like a complete waste of time.
suggestions for ways to change your life for the better:
explore your spiritual side with an Alpha course
join a gym
join a local running club
volunteer at a local youth club or a retirement community
Write a book
Explore your artsy side, by taking up painting
take up a new sport, combat or non combat.
I could go on forever, this is by no means an exclusive list. I think the most important thing is opening yourself up to life at its fullest. The peak of the human experience only comes when we realise we work to live, we shouldn't live to work. Those hours you get outside of work are a precious commodity, use them well.
